Is a higher Ah battery better?

The Ah in a battery represents the amp hours. This is the measure of how much power or amperage the battery can supply in an hour. AH stands for ampere-hour.
In smaller gadgets like smartphones and wearables, mAH is used, which stands for milliamp-hour.
AH is predominantly used for automotive batteries that store a large amount of energy.
Does a higher Ah battery give more power?
As mentioned above, AH is the unit for electric charge. As such, it indicates the amperes that can be drawn from the battery within a unit period of time, an hour in this case.
In other words, AH represents the capacity of a battery, and higher AH means higher capacity.
So, does a higher Ah battery give more power?
To answer this question, let's consider an example:
A 50AH battery will deliver 50 amperes of current in one hour. Similarly, a 60AH battery will deliver 60 amperes of current in one hour.
Both batteries can supply 60 amperes, but the higher capacity battery will take a longer time to get completely drained.
So, higher AH means longer runtime, but not necessarily more power.
A higher Ah battery will last longer than a lower Ah battery.
The specific AH rating depends on the device's performance and runtime. If you use a higher AH battery, it will run for considerably longer on a single charge.
Of course, you have to hold other factors constant. The two batteries must be compared with equal loads and operating temperatures.
Consider the following example to set this clear:
Two batteries are each connected to a 100W load. One is a 50AH battery, and the other is a 60AH battery.
Both batteries will deliver the same amount of energy (100Wh) in one hour. However, if both are providing a steady current of say 6 amperes;
The total run time for the 50AH battery is given by:
(50/6) hours = about eight hours.
The total run time for the higher capacity battery is given by:
(60/5) hours = about 12 hours.
In this case, the higher AH battery will last longer because it can deliver more current on a single charge.
Then, is a higher AH better?
As we can tell, the AH of the battery and the AH of a cell represents the same thing. But does that make a higher AH battery better than a lower AH battery? Not necessarily! Here's why:
A higher AH battery will last longer than a lower AH battery. That's indisputable.
The application of these batteries makes all the difference. A higher AH battery is best used in devices that need a longer runtime, like power tools or drones.
A higher AH battery might not make that much of a difference for smaller gadgets, like smartphones and wearables.
The higher the AH of the battery, the larger the battery pack will be. This is because higher AH batteries come with more cells inside them.
Even though a 50,000mAh battery could last weeks in a smartphone, the physical size of that battery would be much too large.
Still, the higher the capacity, the longer the battery takes to charge fully.

In conclusion, a higher AH battery is not always better. It depends on the device and the application. For smaller gadgets, it's not necessary to use higher AH batteries that may not fit in the device.
The higher AH battery is best used in place of a smaller battery if the size and voltage remain standard.
